Application of optical fiber in harsh environment

With the rapid development of optical fiber sensing, sensing technology has gradually entered various fields, and optical fiber communication also has the following characteristics:

(1) the frequency band is very wide, the communication capacity is big, the optical fiber has much larger transmission bandwidth than the copper wire or the cable, the modulation characteristic of the Yu Guangyuan, the modulation mode and the dispersion characteristic of the optical fiber communication system.
(2) low loss and long relay distance. At present, the loss of commercial quartz fiber can be less than 0 ~ 20dB/km, so the transmission loss is lower than any other transmission medium, if the future use of non quartz system very low loss fiber, its theoretical analysis of loss can be lower.
(3) strong ability to resist electromagnetic interference. Optical fiber raw material is an insulator made of quartz. It is not easy to be corroded and has good insulation. One of the most important characteristics associated with the optical waveguide for electromagnetic interference immunity, it does not suffer the interference change of lightning interference, ionospheric nature and sunspot activity, are not subject to electromagnetic interference for release, it may also be used with high voltage transmission lines and power set parallel or conductor composite composite cable.
(4) no crosstalk interference, good confidentiality. In the process of radio wave transmission, the leakage of electromagnetic wave will cause the crosstalk of each transmission channel, and is easy to be tapped, and the security is poor. Light waves in optical fiber transmission, because the optical signal is limited to improve the optical waveguide structure, and any leakage ray are surrounded by opaque wrapping fiber absorbed, even in the corner, leakage of light is very weak, even though a lot of fiber in the optical cable number of adjacent channel crosstalk interference does not occur, at the same time cable outside, also cannot eavesdrop on optical fiber transmission information.

In addition to the above characteristics, there are fiber diameter, light weight, soft, easy to lay, fiber raw materials rich in resources, low cost, good temperature stability, long life. Because of the unique advantages of optical fiber communication, it can not only be used in the trunk line of communication, but also can be used in the power communication control system, industrial monitoring, control, and the use in the military field is also more and more widely. So people began to think about how to use these sensor systems in more harsh and extreme environments. Under the unremitting efforts and positive verification of Puguang Research Institute, we finally found a way to realize optical fiber sensing in harsh environment.
By working with fibercore, we have applied fiber to more complex working environments, such as exposure to ionizing radiation, such as nuclear power plants, nuclear storage facilities, and outer space applications. We designed special processing for single-mode and multi-mode fibers to make it immune to radiation. This kind of optical fiber can be stabilized in DTS and tension sensing, signal transmission. We have also done a lot of reconstruction and testing on the optical fiber for oil and gas sensing. Among them, the most worrisome problem in oil and gas sensing field is long time and high temperature. So we have made a special improvement on the fiber so that it can adapt to a higher temperature, and the coating layer which we specially designed can exceed 300 degrees. We have also made some improvements for ultra low temperature, which can work stably in the -60 degree environment and even work in some extreme environments less than -180 degrees. We will also introduce more anti earthquake and chemical products, and in this way on the tireless study and expansion, hoping to help more users and peers to create a more perfect product.
